Why did we
fight World War II?
Using the Holocaust to Justify fighting in World War II
The US did not join World War II at the beginning. We did not join until Pearl Harbor was bombed in 1942. Some Americans fought to avenge the attack. Not many people knew that the Holocaust was occurring, however a few did. Sadly, no one believed the few people that knew about the atrocities occurring. Therefore many lives were lost before the concentration camps were found and eradicated. America did play a large role in getting rid of them, but it took quite a while. The US was also responsible for dealing with the men and women who were guilty of the war crimes committed during the Holocaust. The way they dealt with these people was through the Nuremberg Trials. (Read about the Nuremberg Trials on that page)
